Before there was DGSA, the girls were part of Moreno Valley Youth Federation Softball Division. In 1986 the girls did not receive anything at closing ceremonies, parents questioned why and were told there was no money for them. Jeannie Landtiser, Dennis Mortein, Frank West (future city council member/mayor of Moval), Joe and Marge Sico and Mary Derko were among a group of parents who decided to form their own girls' softball league which would lookout for the best interest of the girls. These people were also on the first board. Marge Sico thought up the name Diamond Girls Softball Association.
First season played was spring of 1987. All games were played at old Sunnymead Park. DGSA started participating in ASA Eastern District Tournaments in 1996. Pete Trujillo won 14U District in 2000, Dennis Dempsey won 14U District in 1997 and Dennis Mortein had a team (14U) that finished second in state in 1987. There have been a few others, but there haven't been many. The only teams that have reached Nationals have been John Smith's 18U in 2007 which went to Spokane, Wash and Mike Martino's 18U which went to Aurora, Colo. in 2008
